Why Do I feel Like A White Rabbit?

Wow, things are getting really compact in the schedule arena this semester. Ok, here goes:

Monday: 9 - 10:30 (Logic)
Tuesday: 10 - 12 (College Algebra); 1 - 3 (Intro Program. C++)
Wednesday: 9 - 10:30 (Logic); 2 - 5 (Intro to Public Speaking)
Thursday: 10 - 12 (College Algebra); 1 - 3 (Intro Program. C++)

OK, my college recommends budgeting 2 hours of outside class time for every 1 hour in class. It's a 14 credit load. that's 28 hours. Easy, right? NO! Because I just learned today that Intro C++ breaks the time rule and College Algebra, unbeknownst to me, has a 50% pass/fail rate (that is, 1 out of every two people fail the class) and is WCC's traditional wipe out math course!

Intro C++, a 4 cred class, typically takes 10 - 15 hours each week outside of class. That's a total of 35 outside hours - add the in class time and you've got - KA-chING! - near 60 hours of school. Plus church. Plus Youth Quake. Plus work. Plus the youth mentoring program I want to participate in. Plus the math turoring job at WCC that has opened up to me. Plus the clubs I want to participate in.

Something(s) has/have got to go...

    Wow man, that's like... insane. And you feel like the white rabbit on "Alice in Wonderland" because with all the time that's being taken up you're gonna be saying "I'm late I'm late, for a very important date" etc.

    Yeah, your Mondays and Fridays look really busy. -jk- I know how you feel though because four of my classes break that time rule. What you have to realize is when you are as talented as we are, you can't develop all of your numerous talents at the same time. :-)

    The 2x rule for hours of study to hours of class time is the silliest thing I ever heard my profs say.

    BTW: The prof probably recommended 10-15 hrs for the C++ intro class because some students just aren't going to get it. If you have a natural affinity for the stuff (you'll know in the first few weeks) it shouldn't take more than 5 hrs/week of outside time for an intro programming class.

    Having said that, if you really dig the C++ stuff, you might find it easy to spend > 15 hrs programming 'just for fun'. How I envy your position - everything so fresh and new; I remember what that was like. :-)

    It's actually just preparing you for real life my friend.

    Just wait till you have a steady 40 hr (+/-) per week job, a wife that wants your attention, kids that want your attention, side work, yard work, house fixing up, friends that want your attention, church...etc...

    Welcome to life!
